Air Heater

PTC heating unit for air heating

Including
  • Forced-air type
  • Convection type

A PTC air heater is a stack of self-regulating PTC ceramic elements paired with metal fins to heat moving or still air. Because the ceramic core throttles its own current draw as it approaches its target temperature, the heater can’t overheat even if the airflow around it is interrupted — a meaningful safety margin for enclosure and cabin heating applications.

As a PTC air heater manufacturer, PTCWORKS supplies two airflow architectures. The choice mostly comes down to how fast you need heat delivered and whether a fan is acceptable in your design.

About Air Heaters

What It Is

Stacked PTC ceramic elements with metal fins that heat moving or still air. Forced-air types pair with a fan for fast output; convection types rely on natural airflow for quieter, passive heating.

Product Uses

  • HVAC and cabin heating
  • Defrost / defog systems
  • Dryers and industrial air curtains
  • Enclosure and cabinet heating

How to Customize

  • Forced-air vs convection airflow
  • Fin spacing and stack size
  • Voltage and wattage density
  • Frame / housing material
FAQ

Air heater questions.

What is a PTC air heater?+
It’s a stack of self-regulating PTC ceramic elements with metal fins, built to heat moving or still air. The ceramic throttles its own power draw as it warms, so the heater is inherently protected against overheating even if airflow is interrupted.
Should I choose forced-air or convection?+
Choose forced-air if you need fast, directional heat and a fan fits your design — defrost and rapid cabin warm-up are typical cases. Choose convection if you need quiet, passive heating without a fan, such as enclosure or cabinet heating.
Can the fin spacing and stack size be customized?+
Yes — fin spacing, stack size, voltage, wattage density and frame material are all customizable. Send your target airflow rate and enclosure dimensions and we’ll propose a starting configuration.
Does a PTC air heater need a thermostat?+
No — like every PTC element we manufacture, the heating stack self-limits at a stable temperature set by the ceramic’s Curie point, without needing an external control circuit.
Do you offer free samples?+
Yes — send your target airflow, voltage and whether you need forced-air or convection to sales@ptcworks.com and we’ll follow up with sample availability.

Not sure which airflow type fits?

Send your target airflow, voltage and enclosure constraints — we’ll recommend a starting configuration and turn around samples.
