Cased Heater

Cased PTC heating element

Including
  • Ceramic housing type
  • Plastic housing type
  • Aluminum housing type
  • Resin-encapsulated type

A cased PTC heater is a self-regulating PTC ceramic element sealed inside a rigid outer housing, built for direct surface-contact heating or for embedding as a self-contained, ready-to-mount part. Unlike a bare heating chip, a cased heater doesn’t rely on your product’s enclosure for protection — the housing itself provides electrical isolation and mechanical durability.

As a PTC cased heater manufacturer, PTCWORKS supplies four housing materials, each suited to a different set of priorities — electrical isolation, cost, heat spreading, or sealing against moisture and vibration. The right choice usually comes down to operating temperature, budget, and how the part will be mounted.

HousingTrade-off
CeramicBest electrical isolation and high-temperature stability; more brittle mechanically
PlasticLowest cost, easiest to mold to custom shapes; lower max operating temperature
AluminumBest heat spreading and mechanical durability; needs electrical isolation design
Resin-encapsulatedBest sealing against moisture and vibration; harder to service or rework

About Cased Heaters

What It Is

FAQ

Cased heater questions.

What is a cased PTC heater?+
It’s a self-regulating PTC ceramic element sealed inside a rigid outer housing — ceramic, plastic, aluminum, or resin-encapsulated — so the part is self-contained and ready to mount without relying on an external enclosure for protection.
Which housing material should I choose?+
It depends on your priority: ceramic for best electrical isolation and high-temperature stability, plastic for lowest cost and moldability, aluminum for best heat spreading and durability, or resin-encapsulated for the best sealing against moisture and vibration. Send your application details and we’ll recommend a starting point.
Can the housing shape and dimensions be customized?+
Yes — shape, dimensions, lead wire type and length, and mounting hole placement are all customizable. Send your target dimensions and mounting constraints and we’ll confirm feasibility.
What’s the difference between a Cased Heater and a Heating Chip?+
A Heating Chip is the bare PTC ceramic element with just lead wires — no housing. A Cased Heater is the same type of element sealed inside a rigid housing. Choose a cased heater if you need a self-contained, ready-to-mount part; choose a chip if your own enclosure already provides protection.
Do you offer free samples?+
Yes — send your target temperature, voltage, housing preference and mounting constraints to sales@ptcworks.com and we’ll follow up with sample availability.

Not sure which housing fits your application?

Send your target temperature, mounting constraints and environment (moisture, vibration, isolation needs) — we’ll recommend a housing material and turn around samples.
