Why ceramic, specifically
PTC behavior can also be engineered into polymer composites — conductive plastic loaded with carbon particles that separate as the polymer expands with heat, raising resistance. Polymer PTC devices are common in resettable fuses and low-power circuit protection. But for heating applications, ceramic has real advantages: it tolerates higher continuous temperatures, holds tighter batch-to-batch consistency, and the sharpness of its resistance jump at the Curie point is generally more pronounced and more precisely tunable through the ceramic’s doping formulation.
